Requested Items For Supply Drive
With a number of holiday packages being sent to troops at an all-time low, the Flyers and Phantoms are collecting items to be sent to troops overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This Friday, fans attending the Flyers or Phantoms games at the Wachovia Center are encouraged to bring items for the troops, which will be boxed up and sent overseas.
Friday’s Phantoms game will also honor Ben Stafford who is currently serving as a Lieutenant with a Marine Corps unit in Iraq. Stafford, a former Phantom, scored the game-winning goal in the 2005 Calder Cup. While known on the ice for his strong work ethic, durability and penalty-killing skills, Stafford was a role model off the ice as well, twice earning Phantoms’ American Hockey League Man of the Year honors for community and charity work.
As part of Friday's Tribute to Tough Guys night, every person who brings supplies to the drive will receive a raffle ticket. During the game, three prizes will be awarded. The grand prize winner will receive a pair of hockey gloves signed by Dave Brown, Dave Schultz, Bob Kelly, Frank Bialowas, Paul Holmgren, Josh Gratton, Craig Berube and Riley Cote. One runner-up will receive a large hammer signed by Schultz, and another a stuffed Hound Dog signed by Kelly.
